The Captain was wanting me to realist so that I could complete the job that I started. His Incentive was to give me two rank advancements. I refused. I had however, finished almost everything and trained replacement personnel before I was discharged.
I did not care much for this part of the country too much; Southern Baptist influence.
Finally - on the first of December 1945 I was notified that I had l enough service and points from overseas duty to be discharged. I was to be discharged on the 4th day of December at a ceremony in the auditorium.
So at 10:00 on the morning of December 4th I was given my discharge. Before going to the ceremony I had to check out with the Quartermaster Supply and AAF Supply.
Two of us were discharged at this ceremony. We were seated on a stage. The Base Commander and several other officers were on the stage with us. There were also quite a few GIs in the audience.
The Base commander gave a little talk concerning our tour of duty in the Air Force. After this he handed each or us our discharge papers and discharge pin. He also wished us luck as a civilian.
